Dalam rangka menaikkan pertumbuhan pelanggan BlackBerry Indosat hingga 50%, baru-baru ini, Indosat, salah satu provider layanan Blackberry Indonesia, meluncurkan paket Blackberry Internet Service prabayar. Paket ini diberi nama “BlackBerry on Demand Paket Irit” atau singkatnya disebut sebagai “Paket Irit”. Paket ini diperuntukkan untuk pengguna produk-produk Indosat, yaitu Matrix, Mentari, IM3 maupun Starone.
Paket Irit ini mempunyai kesamaan dengan paket Blackberry Internet Service (BIS) Regular dari Indosat, hanya saja paket ini tidak mendukung fitur WiFi. Dengan paket Blackberry Internet Service ini Anda dapat menggunakan fitur-fitur yang tertera pada spesifikasi Blackberry seperti, push mail (untuk maksimal 10 akun email), melihat lampiran, internet browsing, chatting (Yahoo Messenger, ICQ, Gtalk, MSN, AOL) dan social networking (twitter, facebook dan lain-lain).
Paket Irit dari Indosat ini dibagi menjadi 3 jenis paket Blackberry Internet Service (BIS), yaitu Paket Irit Harian, dengan tarif Rp. 4.950,- (termasuk PPN) dan masa berlaku selama 1 hari, Paket Irit Mingguan, dengan tarif Rp. 28.600,- (termasuk PPN) dan masa berlaku selama 7 hari, dan Paket Irit Bulanan, dengan tarif Rp. 110.000,- (termasuk PPN) dan masa aktif selama 30 hari.
Untuk mengaktifkan paket ini, dapat dilakukan dengan mengirimkan Short Message Text (SMS) ke 889 dari nomor Matrix, Mentari, IM3 maupun Starone dengan format “Irit Harian”, “Irit Mingguan” atau “Irit Bulanan” tergantung paket yang ingin Anda pilih. Anda juga bisa mengaktifkan Paket Irit Blackberry Internet Service ini dengan men-dial *123*6# , kemudian tekan "1" untuk Blackberry on Demand.
Seperti disebutkan diatas bahwa Paket Irit ini tidak mensupport fitur WiFi. Bila Blackberry Anda mempunyai dukungan untuk Wifi misalnya BlackBerry 8520, Anda tidak dapat lagi menggunakan APN blackberry lewat Wifi karena APN blackberry ini akan diblok. Pengguna BlackBerry biasanya memakai wifi untuk koneksi ke internet bila mereka berada di luar area jangkauan jaringan operator BlackBerry mereka atau bila mereka sedang bepergian ke luar negeri.
Dengan diluncurkannya Paket Irit ini, Indosat berharap target pertumbuhan pelanggan Blackberry Indosat sebesar 50% di tahun 2010 ini dapat terealisasi.
